Course description

This introductory course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about autism and developing a better understanding of autistic people.

It provides a friendly introduction to autism, helping You to explore what autism is and how it can affect individuals in different ways.

This course is suitable for beginners and provides an opportunity to develop confidence while exploring a new subject. You must be able to attend every session in order to successfully complete this course.

Over four sessions, You will explore the characteristics of autism, the strengths and challenges that some autistic people may experience, the importance of understanding individual differences, and ways to promote inclusion and support. Through discussion and practical activities, You will develop a greater awareness of autism and how greater understanding can have a positive impact in everyday life.

What can this course lead to?

Course progression

Upon completion, you could progress onto a further course, including:

  • This course will support you to progress onto further short courses including Dementia Awareness and Substance Misuse Awareness. If you would like to gain a qualification in the area, you could apply for the Level 2 Dementia Awareness Award. Our Student Support Services team will work with you to design a personalised learning journey based on your needs and aspirations.
Career progression

Upon completion, you could progress onto careers, such as:
