Course description
Gain hands-on experience whilst studying our new Level 1 Certificate in Practical Horticulture course, delivered in the wonderful grounds here at Northern College.
Perfect for beginners and garden enthusiasts eager to develop essential horticultural skills in your local community.
Over the duration of the course, you'll learn a variety of new skills which could include:
- The fundamentals of soil preparation
- Planting
- Maintenance
- Sustainable gardening practices
Don't worry about the weather and the time of year, this course is developed and adapted to each season. So, depending on the season you start the course in, you'll learn all the relevant skills needed to continue to develop and maintain a garden space.
As well as learning new skills, you will also be contributing to the creation and growth of a brand-new community garden which will have the potential to become a cherished gathering place and a central feature of the College.
On completion of this course you will achieve:
- City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Practical Horticulture
This course will take place at the Northern College campus.
What can this course lead to?
Course progression
Upon completion, you could progress onto a further course, including:
- Level 2 Practical Horticulture Certificate
- Completion of specialised Land-based certifications.
On completion of the Level 2 Practical Horticulture Certificate, you can access fully-funded specialised 'Licence to Practice' qualifications, for example Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting.
